Pinterest: Confirm and Verify Your Website

In this video, you’re going to learn how to confirm/verify your website on Pinterest.

When you mess with code there’s always a chance that you could break something. When you mess with your website’s code then that something would be your website. If you’ve made any changes to your site since your last backup then do a WP Clone backup before you start. Heck, if you haven’t backed up your website this week then back it up.

Now, adding the code to the head section is dead simple.

Because Pinterest only wants you to verify your site once you can use the WordPress Editor. Any changes you make using the Editor get overwritten next time your theme is updated but this time that’s OK. Once you’ve verified your website with Pinterest it stays verified.

Go to Appearance > Editor. Make sure the right theme is displayed in the theme to edit box. In the right-hand column look for Theme Header (header.php)

When you open the file the first thing you’ll want to do is to copy the entire contents and save it in a Notepad or similar text program. Use Ctrl+A to select all the text, Ctrl+C to copy then Ctrl+V to paste into the Notepad. Save the Notepad then you’re ready to continue.

Get the code from Pinterest using Ctrl+C to copy (or right-click and select Copy).

Go back to the header.php in your website. Every theme is going to look a bit different. So now you have to find the right place for the Pinterest code.

The header.php file is divided into two sections – the head and the body. Remember Pinterest said to place it in the <head> section. If you can’t see the right spot straight away search for <head>. That marks the beginning of the head section.

Create a line below the <head> and paste the code. Now scroll down and Update the File. Make sure your website is still functioning properly. Then go back to Pinterest.

Click on Finish. You may have to wait for a little while before Pinterest accepts your website.
